Canal Day Music & Craft Festival to Benefit the Restoration of Morris Canal Lock 2 East

I am excited to announce that the festival will now include blacksmith demonstrations provided by David Macauley of the NJ Blacksmiths Association.

Additionally, a team of Percheron horses will provide motive power for hay rides along the Morris Canal tow path during periods when mule power is not available for boat rides. Percherons are a heavy draft breed originating in La Perch, a district of Normandy, France, and were bred for heavy farm work and battle mounts in the Middle Ages. To contrast this large breed, pony rides will also be available for children to ride.

Published Poets from the award winning Sensations Magazine, and members of the Six Centuries Club, an American History research and promotions group, will present their research findings of authentic poems written about the canal era, circa 1820 - 1900.

The musical lineup has been expanded as well to include 13 of New Jersey's best. The Hsunami, back by popular demand will perform their song "Rising of the sun", that was featured in the 2008 Beijing Summer Olympics as the theme music for the Chinese National Men's Basketball team. The song was played during walk-ins, and timeouts, and was also incorporated into a martial arts routine during half time.

Double-Breasted has performed twice at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center. The group played at NJPAC’s Prelude Concert Series, and again as the prelude to The Boston Pops Esplanade Orchestra.

These are just two of the very talented artists performing during the event.

Come to a day of free family fun featuring a juried craft show, food, and educational events. There will be something of interest for everyone to enjoy! Learn about local history by taking a guided Morris Canal walking tour provided by the Canal Society of NJ. Experience life on the Morris Canal first hand by traveling down the canal on a free mule drawn boat ride. The Wallaby Tales Traveling Zoo's demonstration of exotic animals will delight children of all ages. Many, many, more activities for fun and learning are planned. Come spend the day with us at Hugh Force Canal Park located at 170 West Central Ave., Wharton, NJ, August 22nd from 10-7PM. Fireworks display at Robert Street Park at 8:00 PM and as always admission is free. Please visit http://www.canalday.org/canalday.html for further information.
